Town first documented in Hittite era as Apbrike, later called Tephrike. Settled by Paulicians Christian sect from 843 AD. Became Seljuk Turkish possession in 1071, renamed Divrik. Great Mosque built in 1229 by architect Hürrem Şah. Town follows Alevi tradition of Islam
