Jiangxi is a southern central Chinese province with 45.3 million residents. Named after Tang Dynasty's Xuanzong for Jiangnan West Road. Known as "Land of Culture, Morality, White Cranes, and Abundant Rice"
Founded in 862 as Krivichi tribal union center. Became independent Smolensk Principality in 1127. Survived Mongol invasion but lost significance after 1229-1230 plague. Captured by Russians in 1514, became important western border fortress. Defended against Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1609 to 1654
