Kiwifruit is native to central and eastern China. First recorded in 12th century Song dynasty China. Name "kiwifruit" adopted in 1959 by New Zealand exporter
Two main types: Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) and Kiwiberry (Actinidia arguta). Kiwifruit grows in zones 8-9, Kiwiberry in zones 4-7. Both types require both male and female plants for fruit production. Kiwifruit is fuzzy brown, Kiwiberry is smooth green
