Originally opened as railway station in 1865 by Smyrna Cassaba Railway. Became transfer center in 2000, first direct rail-metro connection in Turkey. Station electrified in 2001 but never used. Experienced suspension of heavy rail service 2006-2010 due to tunnel construction
Operates since 2000 on single 20.1 km line with 17 stations. Runs from Evka-3 to Fahrettin Altay station. Operates 6:00-12:20 AM daily with reduced frequency on weekends. Fare is TL 1.75 for single trip
