Altay is Turkey's first indigenous main battle tank development. Project began in 2005, conceptual design completed in 2010. Turkey plans to produce 1,000 tanks in four lots of 250 units. Project cost $500m, Otokar selected as main contractor
Born in 1880 in Shkodra, Albania to Infantry Colonel İsmail Bey. Completed military education in different cities before graduating in 1902. Served 8 years in Dersim region before joining military career
Turkish Altay tank development started in 2007 with Otkar as main contractor. Initially heavily relied on foreign components, including German MTU engine. BMC took over development in 2018, sourcing indigenous components. Production now scheduled for 2025 with 1000 tanks total
