Russia and Turkey signed agreement in 2010 for Akkuyu NPP construction. Project includes four VVER-1200 reactors with total capacity of 4800 MW. Construction officially started in 2018 with Putin and Erdoğan's video participation. Unit 1 reactor foundation slab concrete pouring completed in 2019
Project restarted after Turkish-Russian cooperation agreement in 2010. First unit commissioned in 2006, second in 2007. Project cost estimated at $20bn, Turkey's first nuclear power plant. First unit expected to achieve criticality in second half of 2019
Unit 1 received Commissioning Permit on November 21, 2023. Regulatory documents basis for authorization determined on October 5, 2023
