Carnegiea gigantea is a tree-like cactus reaching over 12 meters in height. Can grow up to 78 arms on one plant, with 50 arms possible. Can weigh between 1,500-2,200 kg when fully hydrated. Has extensive root network extending up to 30 meters
Native to eastern slopes of Andes in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Contains about 65 species, many transferred from other cactus genera. Plants range from small globose to 1m tall columnar cacti. All deeply ribbed and spiny with single flowers near crown. Must be grown indoors below 10°C (50°F)
