Settlement in Vantaa dates back to Stone Age with remains of 6700-6500 BCE dwellings. Area was inhabited by Tavastians and Finns until Swedish colonization. First Swedish mention of Vantaa was in 1331 document. Area became important marine trade centre in 1530s
First railway station built in Helsinki-Hämeenlinna line in 1862. Designed by Carl Albert Edelfelt in Gothic and Renaissance Revival styles. Station had separate waiting halls for first, second and third classes. First train left Helsinki on January 31, 1862
