ProgramData stores all installed application data including settings and user files. Default location is C:\ProgramData in Windows root drive. Deleting ProgramData will cause application malfunctions

Windows 10 update can delete or cause desktop files to disappear. Check File Explorer for missing files in C:\Users\Public or Documents. Files showing up indicate they're saved, missing ones need recovery
