FreeSync monitors come in FreeSync, Premium, and Ultimate versions. Requires Radeon graphics card or AMD A-Series APU. Monitor must be connected via DisplayPort, not HDMI. FreeSync must be enabled in AMD Radeon Settings. Individual game settings can be adjusted after universal activation
Screen tearing occurs when monitor refresh rate and GPU frame rate aren't synchronized. It creates horizontal splits in the image. Can happen when FPS exceeds monitor's maximum refresh rate
FreeSync, G-Sync, and Adaptive Sync minimize screen tearing and stuttering. FreeSync is AMD's VESA Adaptive-Sync protocol implementation. G-Sync uses proprietary monitor technology from Nvidia. Adaptive Sync combines features of both FreeSync and G-Sync
VESA's open standard synchronizes display refresh rate with GPU frame rate. Works between 30Hz and 144Hz with minimal screen tearing. Compatible with multiple GPU brands and monitors. Offers smoother gameplay and reduced input lag
Both G-Sync and FreeSync are adaptive refresh rate technologies. They synchronize monitor refresh rate with graphics card output. Unlike V-Sync, they don't add input lag or force GPU to stick to monitor refresh rate
