    Genel bilgiler

    Karanlık madde normal maddenin kara bulutlara dönüşmüş hali de değildir yani baryon denen parçacıklardan oluşan madde biçimi. Zira baryonik bulutlar içlerinden geçen radyasyonu (ışığı) emdiklerinden göze görülürler.

    İki çeşit karanlık maddenin var olduğu bulunmuştur. İlk çeşit evrenin yaklaşık yüzde 4,5'ini oluşturur ve ışık saçan yıldızları ve galaksileri de oluşturan bilindik baryonlardan (yani protonlar, nötronlar ve atom çekirdekleri) oluşur. Diğer yüzde 26,1'i oluşturan karanlık madde ise nispeten «soğuk» ya da «rölativisitik olmayan», bilinmeyen, baryonik olmayan bir formdadır.
