    Roger de Flor - Condottiero, yani kendisiyle sözleşme imzalayan ülkeler adına savaşa giden paralı asker komutanı.

    Tarihte «Katalan Bölüğü» (İspanyolcada: Gran Compañia Catalana, Katalancada: Companyia Catalana d’Orient) olarak anılan bu savaşçılar, 1303 yılında Türk boylarının İstanbul’a doğru ilerlemelerinden ürken Bizans İmparatoru II. Andronikos Palaiologos tarafından Bizans’ı Türklere karşı korumak amacıyla çağrılmışlar.

    39 kadırgayla Sicilya’dan buraya taşınan bu Katalan savaşçılar 1500 şövalye ve 4 bin piyadeden oluşuyorlarmış. Katalan kaynaklarına göre ailelerini de yanlarında getiren Almogávareslerin sayısı kadın ve çocuklarla birlikte 7 bine ulaşıyormuş.
