Peter Paul Rubens, 17. yüzyıl Flaman Barok döneminin en önemli sanatçılarından biridir. Dini ve mitolojik temalı büyük kompozisyonları, dramatik ışık-gölge kullanımı ve renkli üslubuyla tanınır.
Eserlerinde Karşı Reform etkisi görülür; sunaklar, portreler ve tarihi sahneler üzerine çalıştı. İtalya'da Titian ve Caravaggio'dan etkilenerek olgun tarzını geliştirdi.123
