    Michael D. Higgins

    İrlanda'nın Dokuzuncu Cumhurbaşkanı

    Genel bilgiler

    Michael Daniel Higgins (d. 18 Nisan 1941, Limerick), İrlanda'nın dokuzuncu ve mevcut Cumhurbaşkanı.

    Higgins İrlandalı bir siyasetçi, şair, sosyolog, yazar ve yayıncıdır. Cumhurbaşkanlığı seçimleri sonrasında istifasına kadar İşçi Partisi'nin Başkanıydı. 1993 yılından 1997 yılına kadar Gaeltacht Kültür, Sanat Bakanı olarak görev yaptı.

    Higgins, Filistin, Irak, Somali ve Şili'nin de aralarında bulunduğu pek çok ülkede barış ve adalet için yürütülen kampanyalara destek vermesiyle tanınıyor.
