Kariyerine Broadway'de başlamış, II. Dünya Savaşı'nda orduda görev yaptıktan sonra sinemaya dönmüştür. La Dolce Vita gibi İtalyan filmlerinde ve Dr. Mabuse serisindeki rolleriyle uluslararası ün kazanmıştır.124
