    Johann Mattheson

    Johann Mattheson (d. 28 Eylül 1681, Hamburg - ö. 17 Nisan 1764, Hamburg), Alman besteci, teorisyen ve sözlükbilimcidir. İlk profesyonel müzik eleştirmeni olarak tanınmıştır.

    Mattheson, 1730'lara kadar verimli bir besteci idi. Özellikle dinsel müzikler ve operalar besteledi ancak eserlerinin çoğu II. Dünya Savaşı sırasında ortadan kayboldu.

    En önemli kitabı Der vollkommene Capellmeister'dir. Grundlage einer Ehren-Pforte adlı eserinde 149 bestecinin hayatını incelemiştir. Yazdıkları, döneminin müzik dünyasını anlamak için en önemli kaynak olmuştur.
