    Harold Adams Innis (1894-1952) esas itibarıyla bir tarihçi ve ekonomisttir.

    Innis, iletişim araçlarını, zaman ve mekânla ilişkileri temelinde ele almış, zamanı ve mekânı aşan şeklinde ikiye ayırdığı bu araçların tarih boyunca medeniyetler açısından ne ifade ettiğini, onları nasıl etkilediğini incelemiştir.

    Innis’e göre iletişim araçları birçok bilişsel ve toplumsal etkiye sahiptir ve medeniyet tarihi ancak bu etkiler hesaba katıldığında anlaşılabilecektir.
