    Daniel Defoe, 17. ve 18. yüzyıllarda yaşamış İngiliz yazar ve gazetecidir. En ünlü eseri, denizci Robinson Crusoe'nun ıssız bir adada hayatta kalma mücadelesini anlatan Robinson Crusoe (1719) adlı romanıdır.

    Eser, İngiliz edebiyatında ilk modern roman kabul edilir ve karakterin psikolojik derinliğiyle dikkat çeker. Defoe ayrıca Moll Flanders gibi diğer önemli romanları ve siyasi broşürleriyle tanınır.12435
