    Heimskringla, Norveç krallarının yaşamlarıyla ilgili 400 yıllık tarihi kapsayan bir ansiklopedi gibidir.

    Heimskringla kelimesi, 16 destanlık bir cilt için çok uygun bir başlık olan «Dünyanın Çemberi» olarak tercüme edilebilir.

    «İskandinav Krallarının Chronicle'ı» olarak da bilinen Heimskringla, sözlü gelenekten gelen eski İzlanda hikayelerinin bir derlemesidir. Bu çalışmayla Sturluson bizi kuzey, ortaçağ ve Viking Avrupa'sının sosyal ve politik gerçekliğine yaklaştırıyor.
