    Ulusal Standartlar ve Teknoloji Enstitüsü (NIST), Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde endüstriyel standartlardan ziyade ölçüm metotları ve standartları geliştiren bir federal kuruluştur. Ağırlık ve zaman referanslarını bünyesinde barındırır, ayrıca siber güvenlik ve bilgi teknolojisi alanlarında araştırmalar yapar.14

    Türk Standardları Enstitüsü (TSE) ise Türkiye'de madde, ürün ve hizmet standartlarını oluşturmak amacıyla 1960 yılında kurulmuştur. Özel hukuk hükümlerine tabi bir kamu kurumu olarak, standartların hazırlanmasını ve mecburi kılınmasını sağlar.235
