# Unexpected redirects
Unexpected redirection is a type of search spam where a user is taken from the original site to a third‑party resource. This redirection is neither obvious nor expected to him.
Redirection may occur when the user:
- Opens the site from seach results.
- Interacts with site elements (for example, clicks a button).
Unexpected redirects often involve the use of doorway pages, which lead to sites that the user didn't intend to visit. For example, a person looking for a borscht recipe is unexpectedly redirected to a site that sells houseplants.
## What does NOT qualify as unexpected redirection
A redirect is not considered a violation if it is:
1. Apparent and obvious to the user.
1. Has a clear reason.
1. Doesn't mislead the user and can't harm them.
For example, redirecting to a version of the site with a new design during testing, or adding UI elements (such as buttons, banners, or links) that encourage users to visit a different site with a clear purpose.
## How to fix or prevent the violation
Check the correctness of links and other site elements (for example, plugins and other scripts) that can redirect users.
Make sure that that link destinations match users' expectations and the described purpose.
