How to decide which goal to create

Goals let you track user actions on the site. For example, you can find out how many people registered on the site during a month but didn't take any action. The desired actions usually depend on the type of site.

  1. Informational site
  2. Site that offers services or products
  3. Site with contests, promo offers, and so on

Informational site

Registration on the site
To find out how many users have registered on the site, there are several conditions that you can track.
Condition Recommended goal type
Submit a form by clicking a button (such as “Submit”). Track form submissions
Sequence of actions:
  • Click a link to open the form.
  • Click the button to submit the form.
Multi-step goal
Visiting a specific page
Use the Page view goal to track this action.

Site that offers services or products

Tip. If you have an online store with a large number of products, configure transmitting e-commerce data and use the special group of reports.
Form submission

To track form submissions, you can register the following actions:

Click the email address (and send the request by email).

Click on email

Open a page with a form to submit or another way to send the form. This option is not as effective, since it doesn't register the actual submission. Use the Page view goal.
