# Configure permissions and notifications

Certain permissions required for proper Yandex Maps functioning are requested on first app launch, but you can also grant them at a later time.

Additionally, you can select which events you want to get notified of.

## Permissions {#permissions}

The app requires the following permissions to work properly on your device:
- Detecting your location.
- Sending notifications.
- Tracking your IDFA (for iOS devices). 

Below you can find the permissions required by the Yandex Maps app and how to enable them. The path and menu element names may vary depending on your device.

**Location** 

 
:   The app will automatically determine your [location](https://yandex.com.tr/support/m-maps/en/find-my-location.md) to generate search suggestions based on this information.

	  1. Open your device settings.
	  1. Select **Apps** → **Yandex Maps**.
	  1. Tap **Permissions** → **Location**.
	  1. Select permissions. If you select **Allow all the time**, the app will detect your location in the background.
	  1. Enable **Use precise location**.
  
	- iOS
  
	  1. Open your device settings.
	  1. Select **Yandex Maps**.
	  1. Tap **Location**.
	  1. Select the appropriate option in the list of permissions. If you select **Always**, the app will detect your location in the background.

	  1. Open your device settings.
	  1. Select **Apps** → **Yandex Maps**.
	  1. Tap **Permissions** → **Location**.
	  1. Select **Don't allow** in the list of permissions.
  
	- iOS
  
	  1. Open your device settings.
	  1. Select **Yandex Maps**.
	  1. Tap **Location**.
	  1. Select **Never** in the list of permissions.

**Notifications**

 
:   You'll receive push notifications (pop-up messages) from Yandex Maps. For example, a notification may suggest that you leave a review about a place you recently visited.

	When you install Yandex Maps on a device with Android 13, push notifications will be disabled by default. [Background navigation](route-hints.md#background) works even if push notifications are disabled.

**Microphone**

 
:   You'll be able to use [voice input](https://yandex.com.tr/support/m-maps/en/object-search.md#voice-search) in the app.

**Bluetooth** 

 
:   Help the app determine your [location](https://yandex.com.tr/support/m-maps/en/find-my-location.md) better using Bluetooth.  The more Bluetooth sources there are nearby, the better location detection works.

	1. Enable **Bluetooth scanning**.

**Fitness and physical activity data**

 
:   The app will receive data about your physical activity and stop background navigation if you get out of the car and go on foot.

:   You'll be able to add photos and videos from your mobile device's gallery to your reviews.

	  1. Select the access option you want, for example, **Full Access**.
