# Yandex Maps in offline mode

In offline mode, only the [schematic map view](https://yandex.com.tr/support/m-maps/en/customize-map.md#type) is available. You can plot car, bike, scooter, and walking routes.

To use the app in offline mode, download the map.

If you want to plot a route that passes through several regions, download the maps of all regions.

## How it works {#how-it-works}

**Offline routes**

 
:   Offline mode turns on automatically if your mobile signal disappears. Routes are built on the downloaded map without traffic, cameras, and road events, because the app receives this data from the web.

:   Select **Schedule download** and the map will download automatically when your internet connection is restored.

**I lost my internet connection en route**

 
:   If you lost your internet connection en route, navigation along the route will continue. Offline mode will turn on if you change your route. The app will plot a new route and guide you using the downloaded map. When your connection is restored, offline mode will turn off and the route will be rebuilt, taking into account the traffic conditions.

## Download the map {#offline-download}

1. Tap **![](_assets/profile-icon.svg) (profile picture)**. If you aren't logged in, tap ![](_assets/menu-burger.svg).
1. Tap **Offline maps**.
1. Enter the name of the country, city, or region. You can also select it from suggestions.

   In some countries, you can't download the map in its entirety — only individual regions and cities are available.

1. Tap ![](_assets/btn_load.png). If you don't have enough space on your device, delete apps, photos, or videos that you don't need.

To cancel the map download, tap the map name and confirm cancellation.

You can [configure map updates](#offline-update-map) so you always have up-to-date information.

## Update the map {#offline-update-map}

1. Tap **![](_assets/profile-icon.svg) (profile picture)**. If you aren't logged in, tap ![](_assets/menu-burger.svg).
1. Tap **Offline maps** → **![](_assets/settings.svg)**.
1. Select one of the options:
    
    - **Auto update**: Maps will update when you're connected to the internet.
    - **Download via Wi-Fi only**: Maps will update only when you're connected to Wi-Fi. This helps to reduce mobile data usage.

## Delete a map {#offline-delete-map}

To delete all downloaded maps:

1. Tap **![](_assets/profile-icon.svg) (profile picture)**. If you aren't logged in, tap ![](_assets/menu-burger.svg).
1. Tap **Offline maps**.
1. Tap **![](_assets/settings.svg)** → **Delete downloaded maps**.

To delete individual downloaded maps:

1. Tap **![](_assets/profile-icon.svg) (profile picture)**. If you aren't logged in, tap ![](_assets/menu-burger.svg).
1. Tap **Offline maps**.
1. Tap **![](_assets/menu-kebab-horizont-2.svg)** → **Delete** next to the map.

## FAQ {#faq}

You don't need to manually enable offline mode: the app automatically switches to it when your device has no internet connection.

This can happen if you change your SIM card, system language, or SD card. Reinstall the app or clear your search history: **![](_assets/profile-icon.svg) (profile icon)** → **Settings** → **Clear search and route history**. Then redownload the map.

When connected to the internet, Yandex Maps assesses the traffic situation and plots the optimal route. This isn't possible without internet, so the routes may differ.
